Beverly had the opportunity of presenting the To Build a Village Project at the Building Back a Better Community Conference held in Port au Prince from the 31 January 2011 to 3 February 2011. Beverly was also able to stay an additional 2+ plus weeks meeting and working with the Interim Housing Reconstruction Committee, Patrick Delatour – Minister of Tourism, Ambassador Blake – Jamaican representative to the CARICOM, and other Haitian leaders. Those three weeks in Haiti were filled with special experiences that will fill a book and Jean Rudolph ( a good Haitian friend) said he sees a book coming out in the future about “How to change Haiti one step at a time”. This is our goal – to bring Haiti back to being the Pearl of the Caribbean.
We are currently involved in 3 fundraising activities
1. Beverly and Kate, Directors of To Build a Village™, have been invited to a meet with Key Haitian leaders on May 5th in Port au Prince. $10,000 to include plane tickets, rental car and driver, apartment rental, food.
2. To Build a Village™ is also seeking funding to hold a training conference with the Haitian Leadership the latter part May. (Conference Information follows at the bottom of the page) $35,000 to include conference center, 5 members of our team spending 1 week in the village discovery process, additional plane tickets for 7 team members, hotels, rental cars.
3. In conjunction with the Unitarian Church, funding is needed to provide 54 families in the Jacmel region with homes. These families lost everything in the earthquake and have been left out of government help. The tears flowed down the faces of the Unitarian Church leaders when we suggested we “build a village”. Then, a doctor from the Mississippi area asked if land was needed for a “different kind of project”. My tears then flowed. The village will include houses for each family, a small school, a community center, a soccer field, a tilapia pond, gardens, fruit trees, animals, and will provide several jobs and small business for the villagers. $1.4 million.
